Immunizations

Immunizations Are The Best Protection Against Serious Diseases

One of the most important things you can do to protect you and your family’s health is to receive all recommended immunizations at the appropriate time they are due. Vaccines help people live longer and have healthier lives by preventing infectious diseases, some of which have the potential to cause long-lasting or permanent health problems, or even death.

Vaccines are safe and effective and were developed to protect individuals from dangerous diseases especially those that can spread easily in a school, pre-school, daycare or work setting. Please review the CDC recommendations if you have questions about the safety of vaccines.

In order to provide the most effective immunization program for children and adults, we would like to share important information regarding vaccinations and their costs. State law and health regulations require students/daycare attendees to be properly immunized. Some employers require certain immunizations for their employees. Costs should not prevent you or your child from getting vaccinated.

The Vaccine for Children (VFC) program is designed to help protect all children against vaccine-preventable diseases. Unfortunately, many children are not vaccinated because their parents either do not have health insurance or their health insurance does not cover vaccines. Visit the CDC's Vaccines for Children Program (VFC) page for more information about VFC.

Who Is Eligible?

Children are eligible to receive VFC-supplied vaccines before their 19th
birthday who:

  • are Medicaid-eligible

  • do not have health insurance

  • are an American Indian or Alaskan Native

  • are underinsured

Is There a Cost?

For children, Health Departments and VFC providers may charge an administration fee to give the VFC-supplied vaccine if they choose.

Adults who meet certain requirements may qualify for vaccines, as well! Talk with a health department representative for more information.

No one is turned away due to inability to pay!
